Sometimes I Have To Wonder About Polls

The results of a three-year study were recently released.  These results give me pause.  I’ll explain why in a minute, but first…the poll.

Very religious Americans remain significantly more likely than those less religious to identify as Republicans or lean Republican, and nonreligious Americans are more likely to identify as Democrats or lean Democratic.

On to my issue with the poll.  In my opinion, polls like this add fuel to an already hot fire in Christianity.  Let’s face it, there are Christians out there who outright state that being a Democrat is antithetical to Christianity.  In their minds, Christianity is synonymous with Republican.  This, I think is more telling about the state of Christianity than the poll.  My political leanings have nothing to do with “how religious” I view myself.  Just sayin’.

So, I have to ask myself, what is the purpose behind this poll?  Is it just coincidence that the poll is released as the country is gearing up for the 2012 election?

In U.S., Very Religious Americans Still Align More With GOP
