Teh Stupid! Of The Day

As I was surfing Facebook yesterday, I noticed one of my “friends” had this as her status:

If you cross the North Korean border illegally, you get 12 years hard labor. If you cross the Afghanistan border illegally, you get shot. If you cross the U.S. border illegally you get: a job, a drivers license, a place to live, housing benefit, health care, education, child benefit, tax free business for 7yrs. Need I carry on? Put this in your status if you agree…………..No wonder we are a country in debt.

So the solution would be to throw them in the already overcrowded prison system where we, via taxes, would provide most of the things on that list for them (like a place to live, health care, education, and a job)?  Or is it to shoot them for trying to have a better life, you know, the same reason that brought our forefathers to this country?

People post crap like this on Facebook without thinking.  On first glance, it looks and sounds good, but when you really get to the heart of the matter, if you posted this on your wall, you look like an uneducated fool.  Congratulations!

  1. I don’t think the answer is to throw them in prison. I think the answer is to send them back home.

Now, the larger issue needs to be addressed. The forefathers you mentioned came here legally. The current illegals are–well–illegal. That is the key to this issue. If we as a society want people here that are currently here illegally, let’s change the immigration laws accordingly. But let’s not turn our heads and pretend that everything is all right with a group of people who have already broken a law just by getting here.

I am not talking about abandoning compassion or opportunity or any other that. I am saying that both parties need to stop playing political games with this issue. Decide what we want, make a law that expresses that, and tighten up the border.
