Some Startling Figures

I just sat in on an interesting breakout session at the Northwest Ministry Conference done by Steve Haas from World Vision.

-1.2 billion people survive < $1/day
-1.6 billion people survive < $2/day
-1.3 billion have no access to clean drinking water
-Global water scarcity impacts 4 out of 10 persons.
-3 billion have no access to sanitation
-2 billion have no access to electricity

These are all disturbing, but the most disturbing revolve around children.

-Nearly 2 billion children fail to complete the five years of schooling needed to achieve basic literacy
-The biggest killers of children today are also the easiest to treat
-There are 300,000 child soldiers worldwide
-An estimated 218 million children are used for labor, meaning trafficking, armed conflict, sex and hazardous work, million in virtual slavery

Just some food for thought.
