If You Support…

Dove World Outreach Center and their misguided plan to burn the Qur’an on 9/11, then you probably don’t support our troops.  Why is that?

General David Patraeus says the Qur’an burning could put the lives of our soldiers in jeopardy.

The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan said the planned burning of Qurans on Sept. 11 by a small Florida church could put the lives of American troops in danger and damage the war effort.Gen. David Petraeus said the Taliban would exploit the demonstration for propaganda purposes, drumming up anger toward the U.S. and making it harder for allied troops to carry out their mission of protecting Afghan civilians.

“It could endanger troops and it could endanger the overall effort,” Gen. Petraeus said in an interview. “It is precisely the kind of action the Taliban uses and could cause significant problems. Not just here, but everywhere in the world we are engaged with the Islamic community.”

So, for all you Conservative Christians who think Dove World Outreach Center has a great idea, let me tell you, they don’t.  It’s stupid and it’s not Christ-like.  “Rev.” Terry Jones preaches a gospel of hate which is incompatible with the biblical Gospel of Love.  I can’t seem to think of any stories of Christ calling for anger towards his enemies.  In fact, one of the last words on the cross was “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34)

  1. Not sure if you saw this yet but Mayor Bloomberg is actually supporting the Pastor’s right to do it. I still think an artistic move is better just to expose the hypocrisy of Liberals on this. Do a “Piss Koran” instead of burning it then it must be defended as artistic and covered by the First Amendment.

  2. I hadn’t seen that yet, thanks for sharing.

I think an artistic move would be just as controversial. It would be like a group burning Bible on Easter or Christmas.

    There are two issues here:
    1) Politically: Does the First Amendment protect protests like this. To an extent, yes. The Free Speech clause would protect him here…except any protest would not be “peaceful” because they have been told by the City they can not burn the Qur’an.
    2) Religiously: The language of rights are for those who do not seek the risen Savior. This is not a Christ-like response. And St Paul says we are to be subject to the authorities. His entire response is unBiblical.

I’m confused here. I heard an interview with Jones on CNN in which he said one of the reasons he’s doing this is to remember those who died on 9/11. Seriously, he’s going there? The hijackers aside, Muslims were killed too. Lame reason. This is nothing more than a political statement using a false gospel of hate.

    • 1) Yes, he has every right to do something stupid. Just like those advocating for the Ground Zero Mosque.

2)Preaching the Gospel would be a better response.

I’ll add 3) the response of Muslims is what should be expected and really needs no encouragement to justify their murder of whoever they want.

      • We’re not talking about the Ground Zero Mosque and we’re not talking about the response of Muslims. We’re talking about Dove World Outreach Center’s misguided reasoning for burning the Qur’an and a proper Christian response.
