1 וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֣ל יֹונָ֔ה אֶל־יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהָ֑יו מִמְּעֵ֖י הַדָּגָֽה׃ Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish, Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish,
2 וַיֹּ֗אמֶר קָ֠רָאתִי מִצָּ֥רָה לִ֛י אֶל־יְהוָ֖ה וַֽיַּעֲנֵ֑נִי מִבֶּ֧טֶן שְׁאֹ֛ול שִׁוַּ֖עְתִּי שָׁמַ֥עְתָּ קֹולִֽי׃ “I called to the LORD out of my distress and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried and you heard my voice. saying, “I called to the LORD out of my distress, and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice.
3 וַתַּשְׁלִיכֵ֤נִי מְצוּלָה֙ בִּלְבַ֣ב יַמִּ֔ים וְנָהָ֖ר יְסֹבְבֵ֑נִי כָּל־מִשְׁבָּרֶ֥יךָ וְגַלֶּ֖יךָ עָלַ֥י עָבָֽרוּ׃ You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas any the river encompassed me.  Al your waves and billows passed over me. You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood surrounded me; all your waves and your billows passed over me.
4 וַאֲנִ֣י אָמַ֔רְתִּי נִגְרַ֖שְׁתִּי מִנֶּ֣גֶד עֵינֶ֑יךָ אַ֚ךְ אֹוסִ֣יף לְהַבִּ֔יט אֶל־הֵיכַ֖ל קָדְשֶֽׁךָ׃ then I said, ‘ I am driven away from your sight, surely I shall look again upon your holy temple.’ Then I said, ‘I am driven away from your sight; how shall I look again upon your holy temple?’
5 אֲפָפ֤וּנִי מַ֙יִם֙ עַד־נֶ֔פֶשׁ תְּהֹ֖ום יְסֹבְבֵ֑נִי ס֖וּף חָב֥וּשׁ לְרֹאשִֽׁי׃ The waters encompassed me to the soul.  the deep encompassed me.  Reeds bound my head The waters closed in over me; the deep surrounded me; weeds were wrapped around my head
6 לְקִצְבֵ֤י הָרִים֙ יָרַ֔דְתִּי הָאָ֛רֶץ בְּרִחֶ֥יהָ בַעֲדִ֖י לְעֹולָ֑ם וַתַּ֧עַל מִשַּׁ֛חַת חַיַּ֖י יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהָֽי׃ at the bottom of the mountains.  I wend down to the land who barred me in forever, but you brought my life up from the pit, O LORD my God. at the roots of the mountains. I went down to the land whose bars closed upon me forever; yet you brought up my life from the Pit, O LORD my God.
7 בְּהִתְעַטֵּ֤ף עָלַי֙ נַפְשִׁ֔י אֶת־יְהוָ֖ה זָכָ֑רְתִּי וַתָּבֹ֤וא אֵלֶ֙יךָ֙ תְּפִלָּתִ֔י אֶל־הֵיכַ֖ל קָדְשֶֽׁךָ׃ When my soul was fainting away, I remembered the LORD. and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple. As my life was ebbing away, I remembered the LORD; and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple.
8 מְשַׁמְּרִ֖ים הַבְלֵי־שָׁ֑וְא חַסְדָּ֖ם יַעֲזֹֽבוּ׃ Those who honor vain idols lose their goodness. Those who worship vain idols forsake their true loyalty.
9 וַאֲנִ֗י בְּקֹ֤ול תֹּודָה֙ אֶזְבְּחָה־לָּ֔ךְ אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָדַ֖רְתִּי אֲשַׁלֵּ֑מָה יְשׁוּעָ֖תָה לַיהוָֽה׃ ס But I wit the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you what I have vowed to pay.  Salvation is the LORD’s!” But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Deliverance belongs to the LORD!”
10 וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה לַדָּ֑ג וַיָּקֵ֥א אֶת־יֹונָ֖ה אֶל־הַיַּבָּשָֽׁה׃ פ And the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah out upon the dry land. Then the LORD spoke to the fish, and it spewed Jonah out upon the dry land.
